Elephants are unfortunately becoming extinct because of their beloved ivory tusks. And it is simply not fair.
Elephants are hands down my number 1 favorite animal. They are one of the most caring and kindest of animals. They love their families and protect their own. Plus, their memory is impeccable! So when I heard that the President of the United States supports the hunt to kill elephants, I literally could. not. even. Trump plans to reverse Obama’s ban on important elephant trophies from Zimbabwe and Zambia. He says that lifting the ban can save the elephants. He is essentially supporting the hunt to kill these loving mammals.
“Basically by lifting this ban, he is encouraging Americans to kill elephants,” Ellen Degeneres said. “Elephants show compassion, sympathy, social intelligence, self-awareness, they’re excellent at learning abilities — all the things I have yet to see in this president.”
My girl Ellen took a stand during her show and emphasized her love for elephants as well. If you tweet #BeKindtoElephants on twitter, she will donate to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, a nonprofit that benefits African elephants.
If you are not outraged, we obviously cannot sit at the same table. You cant sit with me.
But seriously, one Elephant isn’t Jesus. One elephant will not save the rest of them. One is more than enough.
Reasons Why You Should Love Elephants
They show affection by wrapping their trunks around another.
Elephants are capable of human-like emotions such as feeling loss, grieving and even crying.
They use mud as sunscreen.
Baby elephants suck their trunk like babies suck their thumbs.
Most importantly, they console each other. They essentially help one another. They can recognize distress in another elephant. In other words, they have empathy. A quality most humans don’t have. And it doesn’t matter if they are family or not. They comfort each other. How amazing is that? They carry each other’s burdens. Can you say that about humans?
Spread the love. Spread the kindness. Even to animals.
